
COACHING
The Jersey Squash and Racketball Association (JSRA) is committed to supporting those players wishing to achieve official coaching status by organising on-island courses. During the weekend of 29th - 30th June, fourteen payers were treated to comprehensive tuition from two of England Squash's top coaches with the successful applicants receiving a Level 2 grading.
ANTONY HARKIN

Antony started playing in 2010 after being introduced to squash through the club's development programme at his primary school, he fell immediately in love with the sport and attended the weekend and after-school programmes. Having progressed through the junior ranks he has now taken on the role as the club's head coach and regularly represents Jersey's A team in international events.

Achievements: Silver and bronze medals at the 2019 Island Games
Qualifications: Level 3 England Squash & Racketball Coach

PETER AHIER

Peter started playing both Squash and Racketball in 2013 where he played Squash in the Nick Taylor Academy and Racketball in the Racketball Ouest league. He plays regularly in team leagues, individual leagues and tournaments at all facilities across the Island and has gone on to represent Jersey in both Squash and Racketball.
Peter became a Level 1 qualified coach in January 2023 and, since then, has coached the Junior Squash Academy at the squash club three times per week. He has also coached Racketball league players since November 2023. Peter became a Level 2 qualified coach in June 2024 and now coaches individual lessons for both Racketball and Squash.

Achievements: Represented Jersey at Racketball in the two most recent inter-insulars against Guernsey. Represented Jersey in junior squash teams against Guernsey and in UK tournaments.

Matt Boote

Matt has been playing squash consistently for 25 years after being introduced to the game by his father at team league in South Africa. At University, the convenience and social element of the game led to him playing more regularly, coaching and being coached. Matt has represented South Africa, captained the SA Knights touring team to Jersey and is the current island squash champion. He is passionate about coaching with over 10 years of experience.

Gordon Burgis

Level 2 Racketball Coach
Gordon’s training, coaching and sporting achievement profile encompasses several sports. He has worked with twice World Squash Masters Champion Nick Taylor on Squash and Racketball training routines, represented the Island at Squash and Racketball winning an O55 C.I. Racketball title along the way. He has been a member of the Jersey Squash & Racketball Club for over 45 years. He is an advocate of the ‘Inner Game’ sports psychology to help a player improve and has also completed a Holistic coaching course. He founded and organises the popular Racketball Ouest League at Les Quennevais Sports Centre along with his wife Elaine. Gordon specialises in Racketball Coaching, his motivation is to inspire others to improve their game at whatever level and age from beginner to intermediate players and up
